Goffstown Elementary School Tour

The Goffstown School Board would like to invite any resident of Goffstown to take a tour of Bartlett Elementary School and Maple Avenue Elementary School.

Residents of Goffstown will be asked to vote on a warrant article for the renovation and expansion of both elementary schools on voting day, March 13, 2012.  This is an opportunity for community members to see our schools as they currently exist and to review the proposed plans. There will be time to explore the buildings and ask questions about the projects!

The open house for Bartlett Elementary School will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The open house for Maple Avenue Elementary School will be on Thursday, February 2, 2012.  The open house will run from 6:00-7:30.   Please stop in at any time during that period!

John Stark Fishing Derby

John Stark Regional High School will host a fishing derby at Lake Horace in Weare on Saturday, February 4, from 7 am to 1 pm.

The cost is $20 per person, and participants can register at the event.  Snacks and drinks will be provided and prizes will be awarded.

All proceeds will benefit the Junior Class at John Stark High School.

TWIG Presents Sustainable Gardening for Homeowners

This is a basic introductory garden/landscape design course for the gardener who wants to keep the biodiversity on their property using native plant material and organic methods.  As an Accredited Organic Land Care Professional, Paula would like to convey the importance of enhancing the land, not abusing it.  This is a six week course, two hours a week that will involve the following methods of giving back to the earth what we take away.

Presented through the Goffstown Adult Education Program, beginning March 8th from 6-8 pm for six weeks.

Introduction.

What is sustainablity and why is it important for our ecosystems?

Organic vs. pesticides

Starting with soil – Composting basics – organic soil preparation

Rain Gardens – learning how to conserve water and deal with runoff

Meadows/organic lawns/lawn substitutes

Plant material

Design elements

Working with our land and not against it is the main focus for the students to get a sense of place on their own property.

Annual Super Roll A Thon for Outreach

Webster Lodge Presents Scholarships

Webster Lodge #24 Independent Order of Odd Fellows welcomed the 2011 Goffstown High School Scholarship winners to their January 8th meeting. Scholarship winners need to complete a successful semester of college before claiming their scholarship. Sarah Blanchette of Goffstown is attending Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH and Steven Edmonds of Goffstown is attending Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Steven had to return to school on January 7th and was represented by his father Jim Edmonds. Both students had successful starts to their college experience and had obtained excellent grades for the first semester. Each of the recipients was presented with a check for $ 2,500. Webster Lodge has been supporting the Goffstown High School graduates with scholarships for over 25 years.

American Legion Post 16 Baseball News

The American Legion Post 16 Baseball Team will hold a short Parents Meeting on Saturday, 28 January, 3pm at the Masonic Hall in Goffstown. All current and future parents interested in learning more are invited. Post 16’s American Legion Baseball program is looking forward to a great 2012 season. Parents will have a chance to meet with your coaches and Post 16’s Baseball Committee for organizing in our upcoming season. St. Lawrence Valentines Dinner Dance

The third annual Valentine's dinner dance takes place Saturday, February 11, from 6:15 to 11 pm, at Saint Lawrence Parish, 1 East Union Street, Goffstown.

Social time begins at 6:15 pm, followed by dinner at 7 pm and dancing from 8 to 11 pm.

A buffet catered by Belmont Hall includes beef Burgundy with noodles, vegetarian lasagna, and roast turkey with stuffing and cranberries, mashed potatoes, hot vegetables, rolls and butter and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Music will be provided by Eric Fletcher of DJ ETC.

Tickets are $22 and will be sold January 21 to February 7 in the chapel after all weekend Masses.  For weekday sales, call the parish office at 497-2651 or Phyllis Hanavan at 622-3100.

The extreme weather date is February 18.
